Frontline not working for you? Are you concerned about what these harmful pesticides that go into your dogs skin are doing to your pet? After all, something that has a warning advising you to thoroughly wash your hands after applying can't be good for a pet, right? Are you looking for a safe and natural flea and tick control for your dog? Well in this article, I am going to discuss some safe alternatives to flea and tick control that don't involve the potential harmful effects that pharmaceutical grade flea and tick medication could pose.

One of the safest ways to control a flea and tick outbreak is to use natural wood chips. Bugs hate these chips in general but by adding wood chips around your pets bedding, the fleas and ticks will try to get away. The crazy thing about this method is your grandmother probably is using this method to keep bugs away from things in her chests and closets. I suggest using cedar wood as this not only is an effective deterrant to a possible flea infestation but it also smells great!

You can apply cedar wood oil extract directly to your dogs skin to keep the fleas and ticks at bay. Typically, you would only be spending $1 to apply the oil on the dog's coat and you won't have to worry about it making your dog sick. It is a natural solution.

Because it is oil that you are applying, you will probably want to apply the treatment outside. If your pet is infested with fleas, you can literally watch them jump off of him or her as you are applying it. They hate the stuff that much.

I have tried other natural flea treatments as well but they haven't worked. The laundry list include pennyroyal, Borax, diatomaceous earth and pyrethrum. All of these either didn't work at all or had issues. For instance, diatomaceous earth is toxic when you are applying it to your backyard and you have to wear a mask or risk slight damage to your lungs.

In hindsight, I wish I had tried to use cedar wood chips and cedar wood oil for fleas in the very beginning rather than listening to suggestions friends told me and reading articles online. Cedar wood oil is the perfect preventative for dogs. It is safe and natural and fleas and ticks (and other bugs) absolutely hate them!
